ʻOpihi has always been a delicacy that in modern times is known as "gold," not only for a certain varietyʻs color, but for its rarity on the shores of Hawaiʻi. Traditional Hawaiian ʻopihi pickers followed strict rules set by local resource managers called konohiki. These rules limited the size, number, species, locations, and times of kapu for harvesting, with the goal of sustaining healthy ʻopihi populations. On this mirror sits a singular, sustainably harvested ʻopihi shell next to its wooden, laser-etched extended family. I hope you look into this mirror and know that you are as rare as the Hawaiian ʻOpihi. Frame measures 11.5 inches. Inner mirror is 9.5 inches at its narrowest diameter.
